The purpose of the test is to assess tank floor condition, without the need to remove it from service and clean it for internal inspection, to assist with maintenance timing and prioritisation or to support a run extension. The AET will identify and locate acoustic emission sources on the tank floor produced primarily by the formation of corrosion scale. The data is processed to evaluate the overall condition of the tank floor and the Potential Localised Damage arising from concentrated sources.
