His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), Chairman of the General Sports Authority (GSA), and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), chaired the GSA board meeting on February 18.
The agenda included approving the minutes of the previous meeting, reviewing the Khalid bin Hamad Gold Generation initiative, and discussing specialisations related to the sports system within the coach and player development project in cooperation with the Labour Fund (Tamkeen).
The meeting also reviewed the professional sports project and discussed plans to develop stadiums and sports facilities across the Kingdom, along with other development projects.
Governance and internal and external oversight for 2025 were also addressed, along with upcoming programmes and events.
HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad commended the efforts of the GSA’s executive team, led by Dr. Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar, over the past year.
He highlighted their collaboration with all stakeholders in Bahrain’s sports sector, which contributed to several achievements.
HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad emphasised the importance of advancing the development and construction of sports facilities, including stadiums and halls, to provide an optimal environment for young people to engage in activities within clubs and national federations.
He also highlighted the need to address any concerns promptly.
HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad underlined the necessity of enhancing all aspects of the sports system, including athletes, coaches, administrators, and referees, through training programmes that align with the highest standards.
He highlighted Bahrainis’ competence and excellence in this field.
HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad further highlighted the importance of continuing to launch constructive sports initiatives that contribute to the sector’s growth and build on Bahrain’s achievements.
He expressed hope for further successes in the coming year.
